Want to know how to increase traffic to your website? Want to know how to more effectively use that traffic? Want to know the latest bleeding edge marketing techniques? If you've been in business on the internet for any length of time, you've probably been bombarded with people telling you the importance of driving traffic to your website (right before they try to sell you a service to do so). But this obsession with traffic has overshadowed an equally if not more vital aspect of any successful internet business, and that is to convert traffic into customers! Its a simple formulae, $REVENUE$ = TRAFFIC x SITE EFFECTIVENESS Increase your traffic, then you can expect to increase your revenue. Similarly, increase the effectiveness of your website in converting traffic into customers and you'll also increase revenue! The importance of this formulae did not really sink in for me personally until I head this story -
What blew me away about this story was the fact that it wasn't a fluke but the result of using a brilliant marketing strategy which dramatically increased site effectiveness. Bottom line is that is you aren't already using this or a similar approach, then you're losing money! That is not to say that driving traffic to your website is not also important. What I find distressing through is the lack of real information on how to do this effectively. You'll notice most readily available information on traffic generation has been provided by the companies that sell you traffic services. Do you think they're concerned with educating you on the best way to use their service or in convincing you to use more of their service? Call me cynical but I'm convinced that in most cases its the latter. That's why its important to find and learn from successful e-businesspeople! I've told you about the importance of both traffic and site effectiveness, its now time to get into the detail -
The very first concept you need to realise is that not all traffic is equal! Think about it ... would you rather 100 visitors who have already bought a complimentary product on the internet or 1000 unqualified visitors? Let me give you an example, if you sold an ebook on fitness would you rather have 100 visitors who had just signed up for a gym membership online or 1000 visitors who were searching for 'free diet programs' on the google search engine? Do you know where you're getting visitors from and how much they're worth to you? The second concept is that if you're paying for traffic, then you need to know who much revenue that traffic is bringing in! If there is one thing I absolutely love about the internet is that you can check the effectiveness of any advertising campaign in real-time! If you set it up correctly you can know at any time how much you've spent on a campaign as well as the revenue you've earned from the traffic generated by the campaign! You can therefore keep tweaking your online advertising campaigns until they return as much as they can! I've rarely has a new advertising campaign that had great returns initially (sometimes they barely break even), but the process I use to keep improving them means that is rare for these ad campaigns to not eventually give comfortable returns. For example I have one ad campaign which was initially losing me money (spent more on traffic then I was earning) but in under a month I was able to use a process of continual improvement so that it returned 300% (i.e. for every $1 I spent on advertising I'd get $3 in revenue within the same month!). To put that in perspective, that is the equivalent of putting money in a bank account with 3600% interest/year.
